About This Experience
Uganda Has a Rich, Unique Culture
Uganda is a warm country — literally, but especially figuratively. During the 12-Day Culture & Nature Tour, we show you as much of the real Ugandan life as possible. Your tour guide ensures that there is a lot of interaction with the local population — stepping into their world and experiencing Uganda in a very relaxed and authentic way.
You will participate in activities that have been developed and are carried out by the community itself. From preparing a meal with a group of women from the village, to attending local community meetings and collecting cattle. Every cultural encounter on this tour is genuine, meaningful, and deeply connected to the people who call Uganda home.
One of the most extraordinary cultural encounters on this tour is a visit to the Karamojong — a nomadic cattle-farming community in the northeast of Uganda. The Karamojong are one of Uganda's most distinctive peoples, living according to age-old traditions that have remained largely unchanged for generations. You will participate in their daily activities, observe their customs, and gain a rare insight into a way of life that very few travellers ever experience.
In addition to the Karamojong, you will hike to the remote peaks of Mount Morungole to visit the Ik tribe, one of Uganda's most isolated communities, living in seclusion high in the mountains. This is a bigger challenge both physically and emotionally and it is an authentic and profoundly moving experience that is unique to this tour.
There Are Few Things More Beautiful Than Nature in Uganda
Uganda is a country of extraordinary natural diversity. A few hours drive in any direction and you are in a completely different landscape — from the deep green jungle of Kibale Forest to the open savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park, and from the dramatic peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains to the tranquil waters of the Nile in Murchison Falls National Park.
You can leave the chimpanzees in the deep green jungle and a little later you are in the middle of the savannah between the lions. A little later you are in the middle of a mountain range. Uganda's landscapes shift dramatically and continuously. This tour is designed to take you through as many of them as possible.
The 12-Day Culture & Nature Tour visits some of Uganda's most spectacular natural environments from the Sipi Falls in the east, where dramatic waterfalls cascade down the slopes of Mount Elgon, to the vast floodplains of Murchison Falls National Park in the north, where boat safaris on the Nile bring you face to face with hippos, crocodiles, and some of the most spectacular birdlife in East Africa.
In Budongo Forest, one of Uganda's largest and most ancient mahogany forests, you'll track chimpanzees through cathedral-like trees, while at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary you'll have the rare opportunity to trek on foot with Uganda's only wild white rhinos.
Uganda's nature is endlessly surprising, endlessly beautiful — and this tour gives you 12 days to experience it at its very best.
